The hair metal of the 80's strikes me as particularly influential in this category. The worst album cover of the 80's in my opinion is the cover of the Shotgun Messiah album. I mean WTF? All that blue light? They look like the women who were in Blue Man Group! AND that album came with a stencil's of the band's logo, so you could stencil it anywhere you wanted.
